Highlights of the Trip:
Itinerary:
The West Highland Way stretches 96 miles (154 Km) from Milngavie to Fort William, taking in a huge variety of scenery along the way, from countryside parks to loch-shores and open moorlands to steep mountains.
Day 1 - You will be greeted by your guide at the airport, and enjoy a private transfer to your Hotel, where you will be able to enjoy a true Scottish Welcome, recharge and get ready for your big adventure.
Day 2 - After a scrumptious Scottish Breakfast, you will enjoy a private transfer to the start of your walk, on the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond. It will take you through 14 miles of breathtaking Highlands scenery. Watch out for golden eagles and ospreys! Arriving at destination, you will have the chance to enjoy a pint or a dram in the oldest and quirkiest Inn of the National Park, and maybe meet its ghosts...
Day 3 - Today's walk will take you on a 12 miles journey.
Having immersed yourself in the lush beauty of Loch Lomond, you will now enter a different landscape. One of soaring mountains and gentle glen walking. You will get a chance to see the falls of Falloch before reaching the halfway point, Crianlarich, for lunch. At Kirkton Farm you’ll come across the old St Fillan’s Priory and a graveyard, before you join the River Cononish into Tyndrum, and hear about the Lochan ( Legend of the lost sword).
Day 4- Soon after leaving Tyndrum you will skirt the steep sides of Beinn Odhar and the pyramid of Beinn Dorain sits ahead. Let's now start our walk, 18 miles from Bridge of Orchy to the meeting of the 3 waters. We will then meet our coach, and get transferred to Glencoe, where we will spend the night, immersed between the history and the legend.
Day 5 - Today will take us from Kinlochleven to Fort William, 16 miles.
This last section begins with a steep climb out of Kinlochleven, giving you superb views. The path follows the glen, reaching woodland before heading towards Glen Nevis, while Britain’s highest mountain Ben Nevis comes into view. Make your way downtown to the finish for a photo opportunity with the bronze statue of a fellow walker at Gordon Square. Enjoy free time and a pint in town. Overnight in your Fort William Hotel (for 2 nights)
Day 6 - Ascension of the Mighty Ben Nevis ( optional)
PLEASE BE PREPARED WITH WINTER MOUNTAIN GEAR.
The summit of Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles and has several memorials, a trig point, and many cairns. There are also the remains of the (meteorological) observatory which operated here early in the twentieth century. The view is tremendously extensive and covers much of the Highlands, but there is nothing more dramatic than peering down the north side, across or down the massive cliffs. Once down - a celebration will be in order.
Day 7- This morning, we will head to the magnificent estate of Blair. Here, you will visit one of the oldest castles in Scotland, with an architecture as rich as its history, and its beautiful, lush gardens. We will then head to a beautiful victorian village, where we will have lunch in a traditional pub, and enjoy a small walk.
We will then head to the heights of the town, and visit Edradour Distillery, the most picturesque distillery in Scotland, and will leave the highlands towards Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.
Day 8- We will start our day by a panoramic city tour, followed by the visit of Edinburgh Castle.
We will then enjoy a typical lunch in an old church, reconverted into a traditional Scottish restaurant.
You will then enjoy some free time to enjoy the heart of the capital at leisure.
We will meet again at the end of the afternoon, to celebrate the end of our great adventure in a truly Scottish way, and will enjoy a traditional Scottish evening.
Day 9 This is the end of our services, but we are at your disposition for advice and logistics.
